The politician and leader of the LDPR party Vladimir Zhirinovsky died. This was announced by the State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky was born on April 25, 1946 in Alma-Ata. In May 1988, he took part in the work of the Constituent Congress of the Democratic Union, which was headed by dissident Valery Novodvorskaya, but soon left the party.
In 1989, Zhirinovsky, together with Vladimir Bogachev, founded the liberal-democratic party of the Soviet Union (LDPSS), it was officially registered in April 1991. In June of the same year, Zhirinovsky ran for the presidency of the RSFSR, where he took third place.
In 1993, he elected a deputy to the State Duma of the first convocation - his party, renamed the LDPR, gained more votes - about 23 percent. Then Zhirinovsky several times successfully re -elected into the lower house of the federal parliament. At the time of death, he was the current deputy of the State Duma.
Since 1991, Zhirinovsky participated six times in the elections of the President of Russia (Oleg Malyshkin ran for the LDPR only in 2004). The best result was shown in the 2008 elections - third place and 9.35 percent of the vote.
Zhirinovsky was among those who supported the GKChP, the dispersal of the Supreme Council of Russia, the annexation of Crimea . The politician was known for his eccentric behavior and radical public statements.
