Convicted Crimean anarchist may be subject to change from camp regime to prison

The administration of the Kabardino-Balkarian penal colony No. 1 notified the anarchist Yevgeny Karakashev, convicted in the case of incitement to terrorism on the Internet (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code), of the upcoming meeting to change the camp regime to prison. This was reported to OVD-Info by Karakashev's support group.

The hearing is scheduled for April 19 at the Chegemsky District Court. On April 13, a meeting will also be held on bringing Karakashev to administrative responsibility under the article on discrediting the armed forces of the Russian Federation (Article 20.3.3. of the Code of Administrative Offenses) because of statements about the war in Ukraine.

• Journalist Sofiko Arifjanova previously reported to OVD-Info about pressure on Karakashev from the administration of the colony. After being transferred to IK-1 of Kabardino-Balkaria in the fall of 2019, Karakashev was twice sent to a punishment cell for 15 days. In addition, according to Karakashev's support group, he spent a significant part of his term in more stringent conditions of detention - in a single cell-type room (EPKT), 3 × 4 meters in size, for three people. Karakashev was also not given the newspapers he subscribed to.
• In April 2019, a court sentenced anarchist Yevgeny Karakashev to six years in a penal colony in the case of incitement to terrorism on the Internet. The reason for the criminal case was two videos on VKontakte - "Untitled" and "The last interview of Primorye partisans", included in the register of extremist materials - and the text under the second video. The article on inciting hatred and enmity (part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code) was excluded from the charge after its partial decriminalization.
