The Lychakivsky District Court of Lviv has toughened the measure of restraint for the Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk and sent him under arrest without the right to be released on bail. This was reported by the press service of the court.

In May 2021, the court placed Medvedchuk under house arrest on charges of treason and other crimes. According to the court's report, on February 26, police officers did not find the politician at his place of residence.

Viktor Medvedchuk is the most famous pro-Russian politician in Ukraine, the leader of the Opposition Platform - For Life party. He is called "Putin's godfather": Medvedchuk said that the Russian president is the godfather of his daughter.
On April 12, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the arrest of Medvedchuk, who escaped from house arrest after the start of the war in Ukraine. The SBU stated that he planned to flee the country with the help of the FSB. Zelensky offered to exchange Medvedchuk for the Ukrainian military, but the Kremlin refused, saying that Medvedchuk was not a Russian citizen and had nothing to do with the “special operation.”
Medvedchuk's wife Oksana Marchenko believes that her husband is being persecuted for political reasons, and his escape from house arrest was fabricated. She recorded several video messages, including Zelensky, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, relatives of the British who fought in Ukraine and were captured, calling for the release of her politician or exchange him for prisoners.
