The company RN-PURNEFTEGAZ, which is part of the Rosneft oil industry, announced the start of a grant program aimed at solving social issues of indigenous peoples of the North. This support format will stimulate scientific research that will help maintain a traditional way and a unique culture of indigenous northerners.
Among the priority areas of the program - teaching children of forest Nenets in their native language. The dialect of forest Nenets is different from the tundra, on which most of the textbooks available today are composed. The latest edition for learning a forest dialect was released in 2015 with a circulation of 500 copies. For this reason, teachers are forced to independently prepare materials for learning, which complicates the process of mastering the educational program. The release of teaching aids in the dialect of forest Nenets will help to solve this issue, and, in the future, will preserve the unique dialect of the language of one of the smallest peoples of the North: it is known that today only one and a half thousand native speakers of forest Nenets language remained in the world.
The important component of the life of forest Nenets remain traditional crafts, and therefore the issue of maintaining the number of fish populations in local reservoirs is relevant for the indigenous Yamalians. To analyze the state of local ecosystems, RN-Purneptegaz plans to support a study on the search for the most effective way to be buried in the Purovsky district of Yamal. The replenishment of valuable species of fish in the water area of the Pur-Tazovsky basin will contribute to the preservation of the habitat and the original lifestyle of forest Nenets.
