The debate of Emmanuel Macron and Marin Le Pen, who were on April 20, did not affect the leadership of the current president, despite the attempts of Le Pen to attract a more moderate electorate. Polls give Macron the first place - but even if he wins the election on the nearly Sunday, his victory is unlikely to be so convincing as five years ago: the difficulties were created not by Covid and not Russia, but by the internal problems of France
The debate - the main event on the eve of the second round - collected an impressive television audience of 14 million spectators (more than 60%), which is quite consistent with the French political tradition. Many voters do not want to delve into the programs of the candidates and do not follow the information campaign during the election marathon, but the television department, when two rivals converge in a fierce dispute, attracts attention to the entertainment of the duel and the opportunity to find out the intentions of applicants for the Champs Elysees in a concentrated form.
The first and second round of the presidential election is divided for two weeks, and in a sense, a new campaign is for this short time, its task is to attract voters who voted for candidates who had come down from the distance. The first tour (took place on April 10) ended with the following results: Emmanuel Macron received 27.84%of the vote, his chief opponent Marin Le Pen-23.15%, Jean-Luke Melanshon-21.95%, Eric Sitter-7.07%. The remaining eight applicants did not overcome the five percent barrier with the explicit of voters 73.69%.
These data make it possible to interpret the balance of power before the second round as follows.
