In Moscow, the justice of the peace of court district No. 422 of the Tagansky district fined the Wikimedia Foundation three million rubles for not deleting articles about the war in Ukraine on Wikipedia. It is reported by TASS.
The court fined Wikimedia under an article on non-deletion of information prohibited in Russia (part 2 of article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) due to seven publications, including about the course of the war in Ukraine, the victims in Bucha, and the destruction of a hospital and theater in Mariupol. According to the news agency, this is the first fine for not removing information from Wikipedia.
The court also fined Wikimedia another two million rubles because of the article about smoke and smokeless powder.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor, at the direction of the Prosecutor General's Office, repeatedly demanded that Wikipedia remove several articles about the war in Ukraine. The agency did not like that the "special military operation for denazification" in the text is called "war" and "Russian aggression."
According to Roskomnadzor, Wikipedia "has become a new line of constant information attacks on Russians." Its authors, according to the supervisory authority, “purposefully misinform users of the Internet resource with frankly false information.”
