I definitely don’t remember the night of the accident on April 26, 1986, since I was only 3 years old then, but I observe the consequences of this monstrous disaster throughout my life. I remember how parents sealed the windows and put a wet rag at the entrance to the apartment. I also remember how they gave pills with iodine and forbidden to walk in the rain. We all grew up with the word “Chernobyl” in our minds, in most cases, not understanding what it means.

The first time I got into the Chernobyl zone in April in 2007 during the shooting of a report on the opening of the next memorial plate. The event passed quite quickly, and I had a lot of time to walk around the city myself. Since then, I realized that the zone is not a dead and lifeless place that is fenced with barbed wire. It is much livelier than many people think. At the moment, it is insanely difficult for me to find a clear definition and the answer to the question of what the Chernobyl zone is actually.
