UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited cities in Ukraine

UN Secretary General António Guterres arrived in Ukraine on April 27. Today he visited Borodyanka, Bucha and Irpen.

Guterres said he was glad that the International Criminal Court had begun proceedings on all the facts of possible war crimes in Bucha. In Borodyanka, he said that he imagined his family running out of a destroyed house. “I see how my granddaughters run away in panic, part of the family eventually dies. So war is absurd in the 21st century. War is evil,” said the UN Secretary General. He expressed condolences to all the families of the victims.

In Bucha, he stressed the importance of a comprehensive investigation and called on Russia to cooperate with the International Criminal Court.

In Irpin, he added that it was civilians who paid the highest price, and civilians always paid the highest price. Innocent civilians lived in these houses. They paid the highest price for a war to which they contributed nothing. And this should be remembered by everyone, all over the world. Wherever there is war, civilians pay the highest price.
