The former governor of Sakhalin was sentenced in a second criminal case

The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison for taking bribes.

The city court of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk announced the verdict for the former governor of Sakhalin, Alexander Khoroshavin, for three days. In 2018, he was convicted in the first corruption case - then the term was 13 years.

According to Interfax, the announcement of the verdict was completed today. The punishment was imposed on the totality of crimes, by partial addition of the punishment already passed in 2018. Now, in addition to 15 years in prison, he will have to pay a fine of 500 million rubles.

In the second criminal case, Khoroshavin was charged with 17 episodes of taking bribes (part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and 2 episodes of preparing to receive bribes (part 1 of article 30, part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The case has been pending since 2020.

The investigation insisted that Khoroshavin took bribes from May to November 2014 as part of a group. In total, from 2 million to 10 million rubles were received from potential candidates for deputies of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Duma. The total amount of bribes amounted to 100 million rubles.

Khoroshavin pleaded not guilty, in his last word he said that there were no organized crime groups or crimes.

The second person involved in the criminal case, former Vice Mayor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Alexei Leskin, was accused of 13 episodes of bribery and one episode of preparing to receive a bribe. His court sentenced him to 9 years in a strict regime colony.

The official headed the Sakhalin region in 2007. He was arrested in 2015. According to investigators, since 2009, Khoroshavin, together with his accomplices, received bribes from eight entrepreneurs in the amount of 522 million rubles.
