Finland abandoned the contract with Rosatom for the construction of nuclear power plants

The Finnish company Fennovoima reported that she terminated the contract with Rosatom for the construction of the Khanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant, the company's website said .

At the end of March 2014, Rosatom closed a deal to acquire a 34%share in Fennovoima for 35.9 million euros. Project cost is 7 billion euros.

After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the company stated that it sees a serious risk for the implementation of the construction of the Khanhikivi-1 NPP.

According to Iltalehti, on May 12, Finland will decide on joining NATO. First, President Sauli Ninisto, who is in charge of foreign policy and security issues, will announce its consent with joining the North Atlantic Union, and then parliamentary groups will confirm this decision. Sweden is expected to follow the example of Finland in the near future.

Both countries had not previously wanted to join NATO, however, after the Russian attack on Ukraine (which, according to the Russian authorities, should prevent NATO approaching the borders of the country), public opinion in Finland and Sweden has changed dramatically in favor of joining the North Atlantic Union.
