Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine: Putin warned Hungary about the beginning of the war

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Hungary about the preparatory war with Ukraine, Budapest believed that he would be able to pick up part of the Ukrainian territory. This was stated by the Secretary of the Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine Alexei Danilov on the air of the National Telemerathon, he is quoted by TSN.

The official did not reveal the source of his information. He answered the question of the possibility of joining NATO, of which Hungary is a member. “Let's see what consequences after this war will be for this country,” Danilov said. Budapest did not comment on this statement at the time of publication.

The relations of Kyiv and Budapest cooled significantly after the outbreak of the Russian war with Ukraine. However, even before it, there were significant disagreements. Budapest accused Kyiv of the oppression of the Hungarian ethnic minority in the west of Ukraine, the Ukrainian authorities accuse the Victor Orban government of distributing passports in Transcarpathia and close cooperation with the Kremlin.

At the beginning of April, Hungary was held parliamentary elections in which the topic of war in Ukraine turned out to be one of the main discussion issues between Orban and the opposition.

The opposition accused the Prime Minister of betraying national interests due to cooperation with Moscow, he in response said that Budapest was trying to draw into the Ukrainian war. After a convincing victory in the election, Orban said that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky was one of the rivals with whom he actually had to fight in the elections.
