Russian alcohol producers were unable to deliver their products to stores due to a DDoS attack by Ukrainian supporters

In early May, alcohol producers and distributors were unable to ship their products to customers due to a major failure in the Unified State Automated Information System for Alcohol Accounting ( EGAIS ). This was reported by Vedomosti, citing market participants.

Attacks on EGAIS began on May 2, one of the sources claims. The Ladoga company encountered this on May 3, and the Fort wine trading company on May 4. At the same time, the Russian producer of strong alcoholic beverages Beluga Group, according to the publication's source, did not notice any problems.

Due to a large-scale failure, factories were unable to accept tanks of alcohol, and customers—stores and distributors—were unable to receive finished products that had already been delivered to them, an employee of an unnamed company that produces strong alcohol told Vedomosti.

Around 11 a.m. on May 4, EGAIS informed market participants that the attacks had ceased. Fort experienced difficulties for another five hours, and its deliveries to retail chains and restaurants were disrupted, said the company's executive director, Alexander Lipilin.

Vedomosti notes that EGAIS was likely subjected to a DDoS attack. The "team of cybersecurity enthusiasts" Disbalanser, which supports Ukraine, claimed to be involved in the failure. Announcements calling for attacks on the system's servers were also published by the "IT Army of Ukraine".
