Karine Jean-Pierre has been appointed as the new White House press secretary. She will be the first black and first LGBT person to hold this position.

"[First Lady] Jill [Biden] and I have known and respected Karin for a long time, and she will be a strong voice speaking for me and this administration," US President Joe Biden said in a statement.

Jean-Pierre will replace Jennifer Psaki as press secretary, who will leave the White House on May 13. According to unofficial data , Psaki, who worked as a White House press secretary for about a year and a half, will go to work on MSNBC, where she will host her show.

Now Jean-Pierre works as the first deputy of Psaki. Previously, she was in charge of public relations for the human rights organization MoveOn, was a political analyst for NBC and MSNBC, and participated in the election campaigns of Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

Jean-Pierre is a native of the French island of Martinique and grew up in New York. She will become the first black person, as well as the first representative of the LGBT community, to be a White House press secretary, said . Psaki
