In St. Petersburg, cool weather with precipitation was established, and last weekend the air temperature dropped below +10 degrees. How unusual is this for the city and when will the weather really warm? The Paper asked about this by the weather forecaster Mikhail Leus.
weather forecasting, leading specialist of the Fobos Center
-I can’t say that the cool weather in mid-May is some kind of extreme anomaly for St. Petersburg. Nevertheless, the weather is still cold. The average air temperature in the city since the beginning of the month is +9.1 degrees, this indicator is one degree behind the norm. Yesterday [May 15] became colder even by 2.5 degrees.
But the precipitation fell a little. And it is impossible to say that the past days were too rainy. At the moment, only 14 millimeters of precipitation fell - this is about a third of the monthly norm, although half of May has passed.
I do not think that a more or less long period of warm, sunny and mainly dry weather will come to St. Petersburg earlier than the end of May. We do not see such a situation yet that the weather changes dramatically. Yes, there will be periods relatively warm, with a temperature just above 15 degrees, especially for the last week of May. But they will not be long.
The weather will change often. Until it is rebuilt on summer rails: air masses and atmospheric formations continue to remain very mobile, the frequency of invasion of cyclones is great.
