The Nanolek company, a partner of the Chumakov Center for the production of the CoviVac coronavirus vaccine, announced that it had stopped the production of the drug, RBC reports.
“Since December 2021, there have been no applications from the Ministry of Health for the supply of a vaccine, the company has not shipped a single dose of CoviVac,” Maxim Stetsyuk, deputy general director of the company, quotes the publication.
According to him, a batch of about 500,000 doses produced "independently" is now in the company's warehouse. Stetsyuk called the production of these doses unprofitable.
If the need for an anti-covid vaccine reappears, the company promises that it will quickly resume production.
- RBC writes that until the end of 2021, the Chumakov Center was the only manufacturer of KoviVak. At the beginning of 2021, Nanolek talked about plans to produce 5 million doses per year, but in September the company announced plans to start mass production only by the end of autumn.
- The KoviVac vaccine was made according to the classical technology with an inactivated (“killed”) pathogen virus with the addition of an immune stimulant and was in great demand in Russia: in Moscow, those who wanted to be vaccinated with it stood in queues for many hours. At the same time, due to the limited amount, everyone could not get vaccinated with KoviVacom.
