Roskomnadzor demanded that the Wikimedia Foundation remove articles about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and “racism” from the English-language Wikipedia. Copies of the notifications are posted in the Russian-language section “Wikipedia pages banned in Russia.”

From the point of view of the Prosecutor General’s Office, these articles contain materials “containing false information about the goals and form of the special military operation of the armed forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine.”

Previously, the court fined the Wikimedia Foundation five million rubles for refusing to remove Russian-language articles about the war in Ukraine.

On May 2, the daily newsletterSignal devoted an issue to the term "Rashism ." It began with a reminder that the corresponding Wikipedia article exists in more than 20 languages.

• The Russian authorities have effectively declared illegal the dissemination of information about the war in Ukraine that differs from official Russian statements. On this basis, more than a hundred criminal and many administrative cases have been initiated, most independent media outlets and major foreign social networks have been blocked in Russia.
