Greek composer Vangelis dies

Greek composer Evangelos Odysseus Papathanasiou, better known as Vangelis, has died at the age of 80, . Kathimerini reports

Vangelis is considered one of the founders of electronic music. He is known for his soundtracks to many popular films. For example, Vangelis wrote music for the films Blade Runner, 1492: The Conquest of Paradise, Missing, Alexander.

For the music for the film Chariots of Fire, the composer was awarded an Oscar and a Grammy.

Also, the works of the musicians were performed as an anthem at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and in the Temple of Zeus in Athens on the eve of the 2004 Olympics.
