Russia stopped supplying its natural gas to Finland

Russia stopped supplying gas to Finland, confirmed on Saturday morning the Finnish state gas company Gasum. Now the attraction will be carried out from other sources on the Balticconnector pipeline, connecting Finland with Estonia.

Earlier this week, May 17, Gasum announced the refusal to pay bills for the supplied gas in rubles, as Gazprom demanded.

Finland imports natural gas from Russia for more than 45 years. In December 2015, the contract was extended until the end of 2031. Although most of the gas consumed by Finland has yet come from Russia, only about 6 percent of the country's total energy consumption of this fuel accounted for this fuel, the German wave notes .

On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, from April 1 of this year, all countries that the government recognized as “unfriendly” are required to conduct gas calculations only in rubles. Some European companies agreed to the proposed scheme. Finland refused to fulfill the requirement, considering it a violation of the terms of the contract. We are talking about paying for gas with converting the Gazprombank of foreign currency into rubles. Bulgaria and Poland, which also did not agree with the new conditions of Moscow, were disconnected from deliveries earlier.
