The monument to Andrei Sakharov was removed from the "Museon"

A monument dedicated to the Laureate of the Nobel Prize of the World Andrei Sakharov was removed from the Moscow “Museon”. This was reported by the Society "Memorial".

The lack of a monument in the park was noticed by the day of May 21 during the tour "Andrei Sakharov - Academician of Conscience." The participants and organizers of the walk did not find a sculpture in the Museum, so they laid flowers to the place where it was before.

The Gorky Park Information Center said they did not know about the movement of the monument, the Museon guard claims that the memorial at restoration.

A year ago, the Moscow authorities refused to coordinate the exhibition of portraits of the scientist, which was organized by the Sakharov Center. Initially, the Department of Culture announced his readiness to provide a place for the event, but later answered the organizers that "content is not agreed." On May 20, at the Physics Faculty of Moscow State University, lectures on the 101st anniversary of Sakharov were canceled without explanation.

In 1980, Sakharov was deprived of most Soviet awards and, together with his wife Elena Bonner, was sent to Gorky. The scientist associated these decisions with his speeches against the entry of troops into Afghanistan. Being in exile, a theoretical physicist declared a hunger strike three times, the longest lasted 178 days.
