In Riga on Friday, the procession "for liberation from the Soviet heritage" took place. Several thousand people took part in it. It is reported by DELFI.

Participants in the procession demand to demolish the "monument to liberators" and other Soviet monuments across the country. The organizers of the action also put forward the requirements to rename the names of streets, squares and squares that bear the names of Soviet political figures, and adopt a law on expulsion from Latvia and the deprivation of citizenship of citizens that state non -proper state.

During the procession, the police were detained by three people. One of them lay in the path of the column and tried to block her path, others shouted slogans and showed the flag of Russia on the phone.

Earlier, the Riga Duma decided to demolish the monument to the soldiers of the Soviet Army erected during the USSR. Part of the Latvian society considers it one of the symbols of the Soviet occupation. A significant part of the Russian population of the country opposes demolition, believing that the monument perpetuates the memory of Riga's liberators from the troops of Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

The Latvian parliament, the Sejm, has already voted to ensure that demolition was generally possible. Until May 13, the monument defended the contract signed by Latvia and Russia. The country's parliament suspended its action unilaterally.
