Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon was detained for 72 hours

Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon was detained for 72 hours as part of a criminal case under an article on state treason. This was reported by the press secretary of the Prosecutor General of Marianna Kurpek.

On Tuesday morning, the Anti -Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Moldova and the information and safety service conduct searches in the Dodon House and another 11 premises, on suspicion of corruption, illegal enrichment and betrayal of the homeland.

On May 18, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Moldova opened a criminal case against Dodon. He was suspected of receiving a bribe from the Moldavian oligarch Vladimir Plahotyuk. The reason was the videos made in 2019. In the video, shot by a hidden camera, Plahotnyuk tried to pass on Igor Dodon, at that time the current president, a black package. Dodon did not touch him, but he said "again you and Kulk" and asked to give a certain "Kostya". In the video, Dodon and Plakhotnyuk are also discussing the creation of a coalition in parliament, which would have a constitutional majority. According to TV-8, Dodon said that "he constantly writes notes to Putin."

After the appearance of this video, an investigation began, but the anti -corruption prosecutor’s office did not initially reveal a crime, and the court refused to initiate the case. Last week, the Kishinev’s appeal chamber canceled the court decision. Dodon denies all accusations.
