A billion rubles were seized from the Russian subsidiary of Google due to the blocking of state YouTube channels

The Moscow Arbitration Court has arrested the accounts and property of the Russian subsidiary of Google for one billion rubles. This happened after the filing of two applications by the joint-stock company Moscow Media. It is reported by Interfax .

Moscow Media, in its lawsuits against Google LLC and Google LLC, asks the court to oblige the defendants to restore access to the YouTube channels Moscow 24 and Moscow Trust, as well as to all videos published on these channels.

According to two rulings published in the file of arbitration cases, on May 26, the court granted applications for interim measures and seizure of funds and all property belonging to Google LLC. The total amount was one billion rubles. Each of the claims - 500 million rubles.

In May, Google began bankruptcy procedures for the Russian representative office, as the arrest of the account made it impossible for the office to work in Russia and the payment of salaries to employees.

• In March, against the background of the war in Ukraine, YouTube announced an "immediate ban" worldwide of accounts associated with Russian state media. After that, ten media outlets turned to the company with claims to restore YouTube channels. The court granted applications for the arrest of property and accounts of the Russian Google according to the statements of the TV channels Zvezda, NTV, TNT, 360 and RT for a total of 3.5 billion rubles.
