Pipeline oil may not fall under the sanctions of the EU against Russia

European diplomats continued today attempts to coordinate a compromise version of sanctions that relate to Russian oil imports.

On the eve of the work of the first day of the EU summit, May 30, the task was to agree that the ban on raw oil imports from Russia did not yet affect pipelines. The oil embargo is part of the upcoming sixth package of sanctions against Moscow for its military invasion of Ukraine.

The draft agreement of the current summit, which was at the disposal of the Radio Liberty media corporation, says that the next package of restrictions will affect Russian raw oil and oil products supplied to the EU with temporary exceptions for pipelines. Thus, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, receiving oil according to the Druzhba oil pipeline, will retain this opportunity until then.

Hungary, which was initially, according to the report, was discovered by the idea of a temporary exception, now insists on further concessions. Deliveries for the Druzhba pipeline are 65 percent of the total volume of Hungarian oil.

The draft application also states that the European Union states by the end of the year will abandon the Russian oil delivered by sea way.
