Roskomnadzor demanded that Tor Browser be removed from Google Play, as it “facilitates the commission of criminal offenses”

Roskomnadzor demanded that Google a software for anonymous access to the Internet, remove Tor Browser, from the Google Play market. This was reported in the department’s telegram channel.

“The court found the information contained in the Tor Browser prohibited for distribution on the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as the software application itself, which allows access to prohibited content and facilitates the commission of criminal offenses,” the press release says.

Roskomnadzor refers to the decision of the Saratov District Court. In 2017, this court banned a download link for the anonymous Tor browser. On May 19 of this year, the regional court overturned this decision, indicating that representatives of the browser were not present at the first hearing.
