The Bank of Russia does not plan to ease restrictions on the purchase of cash currency by individuals in the near future. This was reported by Interfax, said the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank Ksenia Yudaeva at a briefing.
“I think we’ll wait until September and look at the situation. Nothing new yet,” she said.
- Restrictions on cash transactions were introduced in Russia in early March, shortly after the invasion of Ukraine. Then the sale of cash currency to individuals was prohibited, and they were allowed to withdraw no more than 10 thousand dollars from foreign currency accounts in the bank, and the rest of the amount - only in rubles.
- In April, the restrictions were partially relaxed - they were allowed to withdraw not only dollars, but also euros from accounts (the limit of the equivalent of 10 thousand dollars remained), banks were also allowed to sell cash currency to individuals, but only that which came to the cash desks starting from 9 April.
- All measures of currency regulation, as announced by the Central Bank, are valid until the beginning of September.
