On June 5, Kazakhstan will host a referendum on amendments to the Constitution. Of the main amendments - a decrease in the number of powers of the president.
It is also proposed to exclude norms that regulate the powers and status of the first president of the Republic Nursultan Nazarbayev from the Constitution. In total, citizens of Kazakhstan will vote for more than 30 points of amendments in the main document of the country.
In January, mass riots were held in Kazakhstan, including with armed clashes, and President Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev asked the CSTO forces to introduce troops to suppress them. Russia and other participants in the collective security organization responded to a request. After that, the excitement ceased. Later, Nursultan Nazarbayev lost the post of head of the Security Council, and his relatives and people close to him lost their posts and posts in large companies.
