Unemployment in Russia updated the historical minimum in April

Unemployment in Russia in April 2022 dropped to 4%. This is a minimum indicator since the beginning of observations since 1991. This was reported by "Interfax" with reference to the data of Rosstat.

According to Rosstat, in April in Russia there were three million unemployed and 71.9 million employees. In February and March, according to the statistical service, the unemployment rate was 4.1%.

In mid-May, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova stated that compared to March 1, for the first time, an increase in the number of unemployed citizens who were officially registered with the employment service was registered.

"The growth is about 4 thousand people. Before that, such a trend was not manifested," Golikova said.

She also said that by 3.6 thousand the number of organizations that announced a change in employment regimes increased. This means that the number of citizens who are in downtime or incomplete employment has increased.

At the end of April, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the number of unemployed from the beginning of March decreased by 4.6 thousand. In early May, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov called the situation in the labor market in Russia "quite stable."

On May 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the authorities "did not predict" the decrease in unemployment and proceeded from the fact that its surge is possible.
