In Russia, schoolchildren can allow the national language and literature during the exam instead of Russian. Such a bill was introduced to the State Duma by the deputy Elvira Aitkulova, together with the deputies of Kurultay (State Council) of Bashkortostan.

This is the second attempt by deputies of Bashkortostan to introduce a bill. The Duma of the previous convocation sent a document for revision. In the National Republics of Russia, the Russian language is used as one of the state. However, it is possible to study the national language at school since 2018 only at will - this is not an obligatory part of the curriculum.

When this bill was introduced, the inhabitants of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan opposed . In their opinion, the rejection of mandatory study belittles the status of their native languages and leads to a reduction in the number of speakers. Starting September 1 of this year, in Tatarstan, children will be able to study the Tatar language and literature at the request of their parents.
