Vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson fails

Conservative Party members in the House of Commons have voted to keep Boris Johnson as party leader and, by extension, Prime Minister.

211 people voted in favor of Johnson, while 148 voted against him. The decision in the vote was made by a simple majority.

British journalists note that Johnson's result was worse than in a similar vote against his predecessor, Theresa May, who, having won the standoff with her opponents, still resigned a few months later.

• Johnson's critics say the reason for his resignation is the festive events that members of the government (including himself) held during the height of strict lockdowns and restrictions. He himself refuses to resign, saying that the challenges facing the government are too serious.
• The Ukrainian authorities call Great Britain under the leadership of Boris Johnson one of the leaders in financial and military aid. Johnson was one of the first Western leaders to arrive in Kyiv after the retreat of Russian troops from northern Ukraine.
