Russia will not execute the decisions of the ECHR adopted after March 15 - Volodin

State Duma deputies proposed amendments in which it is proposed not to execute the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) adopted after March 15, that is, from the date of submission of Russia's application for withdrawal from the Council of Europe, the State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said .

Payments of monetary compensations on the resolutions of the ECHR, which entered into force until March 15, will be made only in rubles and only to accounts in Russian banks, the chairman of the lower house of parliament emphasized.

According to Volodin, the decisions of the courts of Russia will also have supremacy over the decisions of the ECHR. Amendments made to the bill can be considered in the second reading this week.

"The ECHR has become an instrument of political struggle against our country in the hands of Western politicians. Some of its decisions directly contradicted the Constitution of the Russian Federation, our values, traditions," the Volodin Telegram channel said.

• Russia joined the European Council in 1996. At the end of February, the organization suspended the country's membership due to the attack of the Russian army on Ukraine. After that, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the country would not participate in the work of the Council, and the organization’s committee suspended its membership. Russia was expelled from the Council of Europe on March 15.
• The former President of Russia and the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the country Dmitry Medvedev called the exception of Russia from the Council of Europe “the opportunity to restore a number of important institutions such as the death penalty”. The authorities talked about the intentions to denounce the European Convention on Human Rights, which prohibited this measure of punishment for criminal offenses.
