The BBC asked Russian deputies who publicly supported the war about whether they want to go to the front-due to a hasty change in legislation, the age bar for contractors was increased, now all men under the age of 60 can participate in the war.
The deputies Leonid Slutsky (54 years old), Peter Tolstoy (52 years old), Sergey Boyarsky (42 years old) and Konstantin Bakharev (49 years old) read the written request of the BBC and did not answer; Vladimir Burmatov (40 years old) blocked a correspondent in the messenger. Deputy Sergei Bidonko (46 years old) listened to the question on the phone and hung up.
Deputy Boris Cherneshov (30 years) explained that “and so supports the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” traveled with other deputies to Donetsk and “works in every way so that the special operation continues and that we would win”. When asked if Chernyshov wants to directly join the army, the deputy hung up.
The 26-year-old deputy head of the LDPR faction Vasily Vlasov said to the question: “If there is a need, there will be a request, then, of course, [I will join the Russian army].”
Deputy Maxim Gulin (25 years old) said that he has a delay during graduate school. Deputy Oleg Matveychev (52 years) said that he could not send to the front not because of the age limit, but because the State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin believes that deputies should work in parliament, rather than traveling to the Donbass. He stated that he would hardly be useful at the front, because he is not a military man.
