A translator and journalist from France who was filming a story about activists was detained in the Ivanovo region

In the city of Shuya, Ivanovo region, a journalist from the French channel France24, her translator and local activist Sergei Veselov were detained. The latter himself told OVD-Info about this.

The journalist was filming a story about Veselov - previously a case of vandalism was opened against the man (Part 1 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code) because of the inscription “No to war” on the city administration building. He was also fined 30 thousand rubles under the article on discrediting the Russian Army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code) due to the publication of an anti-war video.

After the arrest, everyone was taken to the Shuya police department. The activist said that he was released. According to him, a report is being drawn up against the TV channel employee, but he does not know what crime she is charged with.

“7×7” clarifies that after recording the interview with Veselov, the journalist and translator were supposed to meet with entrepreneur Dmitry Silin and lawyer Anastasia Rudenko - they had previously distributed free books to the townspeople by George Orwell, the author of the dystopian novel “1984”.

Silin told 7x7 that the girls were detained due to unauthorized filming, although they were filming in a public place. According to him, the police are demanding that the TV channel journalist delete the recordings made in the city.

On June 17, Anastasia Rudenko told OVD-Info that the France24 journalist, her translator and Veselov were detained at 12:30 pm. Veselov was released a few hours later, but the girls were kept in police custody until 18:00, after which they were released. “From 15:00 I was not allowed [into the department], I barely made it through to them,” the lawyer added.
