Patrushev promised that Russia’s response to the refusal to transit goods to Kaliningrad “will have a serious negative impact on the population of Lithuania”

Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, due to Lithuania’s refusal to transit goods to Kaliningrad, threatened retaliatory measures that would be felt by the country’s residents. His words are quoted by Interfax.

“Russia will certainly react to such hostile actions. Relevant measures are being worked out in an interdepartmental format and will be taken in the near future. Their consequences will have a serious negative impact on the population of Lithuania,” Patrushev said.

On June 18, the Lithuanian railway company LTG Cargo, guided by the requirements of the European Commission, stopped the transit of sanctioned goods to the Kaliningrad region from other regions of Russia and in the opposite direction. Governor Anton Alikhanov said that almost half of the nominal cargo was subject to restrictions, and he also called Lithuania’s decision “suffocation of the region.”

After this, the head of the Federation Council Commission for the Protection of State Sovereignty, Andrei Klimov, noted that if the European Union does not correct this situation, it will “disavow for Russia the documents on Lithuania’s membership in the EU.” In addition, according to the senator, the decision to ban transit through Lithuania will “free hands” for Moscow to eliminate the problem “by ANY means.”
