Lithuania has extended the ban on the transportation of goods to the Kaliningrad region to freight road transport. Interfax was informed about this by the press service of the regional government. The same information was confirmed to the agency by several road carriers.

“Partial restrictions on freight transit also apply to road transport traveling through Lithuania. Therefore, like railway cargo, today these cargoes can only be transported by sea,” explained the authorities of the Kaliningrad region.

Lithuania stopped the transit of sanctioned goods to Kaliningrad by rail on June 18, guided by the requirements of the European Commission. According to Governor Anton Alikhanov, almost half of the nominal cargo was subject to restrictions. He called the decision to stop transportation “suffocation of the region.”

Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev threatened Lithuania with retaliatory measures, “which will be felt by the residents of the country.” Before this, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that blocking transit is a “violation of everything and everyone,” and Senator Andrei Klimov noted that if the European Union does not correct the situation, it will thereby “free hands” for Moscow to eliminate the problem “BY ANY means.” .
