The offensive of Russian troops in Lisichansk from the south is being successfully advanced, the institute of war studies based in Washington said in Washington. Lisichansk (along with Severodonetsk) the last large city of the Lugansk region, which is not yet controlled by Russian troops.
Experts believe that the military attack the surroundings of the city in the coming week. It is assumed that the battles for Lisichansk will be as difficult as the battles for Mariupol: the Russian army will have to fight for each quarter of the city. The head of the Lugansk Regional Administration Sergey Gaidai said that Lisichansk is constantly shelling.
According to Gaidai, street battles continue in Severodonetsk, although the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu said in early June that the city’s residential quarters were completely “liberated”.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on June 18 in a column for The Sunday Times wrote that the world needs to prepare for a protracted war-until Ukraine will win. Johnson suggested that the country supply weapons and train a soldier, as well as support Ukrainian infrastructure. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also believes that the war in Ukraine will turn into a war of exhaustion . At the same time, the Kyiv authorities are sure: with sufficient supply of weapons, Ukraine will be able to defeat Russia.
