Riga: Proscy activist Vladimir Linderman was arrested

The Latvian publicist and pro -Russian political activist Vladimir Linderman was detained on Tuesday by the police in Riga in a criminal case. Today, the court determined him a measure of restraint - detention.

The State Security Service of Latvia suspects him of glorifying and justifying crimes against peace and humanity committed by Russian troops in Ukraine. It is also noted that Linderman could receive funding from Russian structures for his activities.

Vladimir Linderman, nicknamed Abel, is one of the most famous Latvian activists in support of Russia. He himself claims to fight for the rights of the Russian -language population of Latvia. Previously, he was a member of the National Bolshevik Party Eduard Limonov. In 2002 he asked for political asylum in Russia, but was refused. Linderman founded the party "For his native language" in Latvia, which in 2016 was liquidated by court decision. He was repeatedly detained both in Latvia and Russia at the request of the Latvian state security forces: Linderman was accused of storing explosives, organizing illegal rallies, calls for the overthrow of state power. In 2008, he was justified by the Latvian court in the case of storage of explosives.

In 2022, Linderman repeatedly performed on social networks in support of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The article of the criminal law of Latvia "On liability for public glorification, denial, rude neglect or justification of the genocide, crimes against humanity, against peace or war crimes" provides for the punishment of up to 5 years in prison, public work or monetary fine.
