"We will have to bury the new Russian empire - along with the Soviet"

An interview with Vladimir Sorokin Financial Times is about the war and about Russia, which remained in the Middle Ages. Brief retelling

I underestimated the degree of Putin's insanity. He destroyed everything that he touched. He says that he lifted Russia from his knees, but in reality he destroyed it.

“Oprichnik Day” is a book in which I tried to imagine what will happen if Russia decides to go into isolation. Now this is happening in reality. At first, people treated her with humor. Then they stopped laughing.

Sensitive people supported our appeal to stop the war. And Putin's supporters said that we are traitors who support the enemy.

There are people whom state television has turned into zombies over the past 20 years. Now they sat on the tanks and went to fight for what only Putin is clear. Reasonable people had 20 years to understand who Putin is. But they exchanged conscience for material well -being. And now they reap the fruits.

Everyone talks aboutthe barbarism of these medieval methods of warfare. This is because the Russian state has not changed since the Middle Ages, since the time of Ivan the Terrible.

We will have to bury the new Russian empire - along with the Soviet one. I hope that the forces of darkness will go to the underworld.

This is an approximate retelling of Vladimir Sorokin’s interview with the Financial Times. Some phrases are not translated literally, but with the preservation of their meaning. The text can be read here .
