The Savelovsky District Court of Moscow received the case of Jehovah's Witnesses Roman Mareev, Anatoly Marunov and Sergei Tolokonnikov, who are accused of involvement in the activities of a banned organization. The SOVA Information and Analytical Center writes about this.

The case against believers was opened in October 2021. Then searches took place in at least eight apartments of believers in Moscow and one house in the Moscow region. The Savelovsky court sent Tolokonnikov and Mareev to a pre-trial detention center, and Marunov under house arrest.

Marunov was charged under the article on organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code), Mareev was charged with involvement in the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1.1 of Article 282.2), and Tolokonnikov was charged with both of these parts at once.

According to the website "Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia", in Moscow 10 believers are facing various criminal cases, and in the Moscow region - 8. Four Jehovah's Witnesses from the city of Chekhov, Moscow Region, have already received sentences: Konstantin Zherebtsov was given a two-year suspended sentence, Yuri Krutyakov - six years probation, Zinaida Krutyakova and Vitaly Nikiforov - two years probation each.
On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. In August of the same year, all Jehovah's Witnesses organizations were added to the list of prohibited organizations. After this, criminal cases began to be opened en masse against believers.
