Traditional peacekeeping mechanisms no longer work. An institution with thousand -year experience of solving such problems can stop the war in Ukraine. It's about the Vatican

On June 29, the Catholic world celebrates the day of the pope - the day of the memory of the Holy Apostle Peter. The status of the Pope has long gone far beyond the confessional, religious framework - in conditions when the world order became extremely fragile, the pontiff becomes a global politician unique in its kind. What is this uniqueness?

The UN institution as an institution preventing the world war, has become the most important result of the Yalta conference. But the effectiveness of the organization in the performance of its main mission is under a big question. The problem is that the UN Charter does not provide for a mechanism for overcoming the crisis if a security council, which is called, on the contrary, is a guarantor of preventing the war. The imperfection of the UN Institute itself lies and the reasons for the inefficiency of existing international security mechanisms.

The world is facing the urgent task of creating a new institution that would have established a diplomatic dialogue between members of the Security Council - primarily at the time of the military conflict between them. A new institution should be based on the territory of a neutral independent state, which has established itself with many years of work in the promotion of peace and international dialogue. The conflict in Ukraine, unfortunately, significantly reduced the list of neutral states in the modern world. So, Switzerland, Austria, Finland and Sweden left their many years of neutrality, condemning one of the parties to the conflict and supporting the other.

The only influential European state that now meets these criteria is the city-state of the Vatican.

When the Vatican condemns the war, this does not mean that he takes on someone else. He does not introduce the embargo and does not make weapons. The Vatican was the main international opponent of the US invasion to Iraq and Libya. The Vatican condemned the war both in Vietnam and in Afghanistan. Pope Francis, adhering to this line in modern conditions and condemning a military invasion of Ukraine, did not join any of the parties to the conflict, pointing out the deep and multifaceted causes of this war, which must be identified and resolved by dialogue. Pontiff calls on Russia, Ukraine, the European Union and the USA to sit at a round table in the Vatican and jointly discuss ways to complete the conflict in Europe - so that the interests of the opposing parties are taken into account. Francis is ready to be an intermediary in organizing negotiations and a moderator when conducting them, taking on all technical hardships and moral risks.

The helpless UN is designed to recognize a new special status behind the Vatican - a universal moderator in the dialogue of states in a military conflict among themselves. A fair stable world in Europe can become a reality, and Christianity can continue its saving mission in new geopolitical conditions, earnestly serving the world and without imposing its worldview to anyone.
