Syria has decided to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. This was reported by the Syrian agency SANA, citing an "official source" in the country's Foreign Ministry.
“By embodying the common will and desire to improve relations in all areas, the Syrian Arab Republic has decided to recognize the independence and sovereignty of both the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic,” the SANA interlocutor said.
In mid-June, the DPR authorities announced that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad informed the representatives of the self-proclaimed republic about the decision to start the procedure for official recognition of the DPR and LPR.
