The American IBM (International Business Machines Corp.), which announced full care from Russia on June 7, produces servers based on the IBM Power microprocessor architecture, which cover about 10% of the Russian market for data storage and server solutions.
To continue working with IBM and Cisco equipment, licenses are needed. Otherwise, over time, some of the equipment may stop working. Licenses cannot be bought through third parties. If manufacturers find the facts of hacking or modifying firmware, then they can remotely turn off the equipment.
What threatens the lack of licenses and is it possible to replace this equipment with a similar one? “New newspaper. Europe ”talked with the executive director of the Internet Protection Society Mikhail Klimarev.
“Cisco stood almost everywhere in large companies. IBM is less common, it is a more targeted story. However, many banking systems and state institutions worked on IBM. These are large productive systems.
In general, the lack of a license does not particularly threaten. To extend the license, you can hack the equipment, such a scheme exists, even until now, a large number of equipment have been pirate. But this is bad, of course, because somewhere the equipment will stop working. In some small companies, this is where it went, but in large projects such as Rostelecom, Transtelecom, this is a big problem for engineers.
In order to extend licenses, you need to hack them, and this is a deprivation of support for the service. Ultimately, everything goes to the fact that the quality of the service and the system will deteriorate. Not that everything has stopped working there from today, but somewhere something will be lost.
If you have hacked equipment and it has failed, the manufacturer will no longer help, at all. And this means that some functionality will disappear or cease to be affordable - for example, notifications will cease to come.
Since user support is disabled, the quality of communication will decrease.
In addition, there are no equipment in Russia, it is prohibited for import. And then all the old licenses flew, they must also be restored, they must be supported and maintained by equipment that failed.
And there will be no other legal ways of work anymore. Among the development of software and manufacturers of computer equipment in Russia, Intel, Dell, Canon, Samsung, HP, Epson, Acer, Nokia and others refused to work with Russian state corporations. I think the list will increase over time. If someone hopes that Chinese companies will not follow this trend, then I am not sure of this: I think that pressure will be on them.
Due to the problem with licenses, there will definitely not be any new services in the coming year. There will be no improvement in networks. Nevertheless, for example, they are accustomed to the fact that the price of communication operators fall, and the speed is growing. From this year, everything will be the other way around - the speed will fall, and the price will grow. We have already begun to grow - we recall the story with Tele2, when the Federal Antimonopoly Service ran into the operator (on June 21, users of the “ unlimited ” tariff plan from Tele2 learned that the price of the package will be increased from July 5. The size of the subscriber fee was supposed to increase almost twice - from 450 to 750 rubles. The Ministry of Council and the FAS announced their intention to verify the decision of the operator, in The result of Tele2 refused to increase tariffs - ed .
But Tele2 did not do this from a good life: they just counted, figured out and decided at the cost of the market share to raise prices.
Communication operators will save on other things. Most often it is saving on the user service. For example, it will not be possible to call the technical support service.
Right now, Cisco and IBM equipment cannot be replaced with a similar Chinese: this is a complex high -performance equipment. Such products are produced, for example, Huawei, but it is different, with another system, with other maintenance. We must integrate. It is not just that you include equipment in a socket, and it has earned - this is a rather long process of integration, it is necessary that the entire system works with other systems. This has been built for years. Now the link is removed from the system - and there is no development.
Theoretically, over time, you can replace and put something that will still be delivered to the Russian market (what I'm not very sure of). But all this is usually planned for a year, or even in two. Because the equipment is calculated by millions of dollars, and even if you try to replace something, it will be very long and very expensive. And perhaps the necessary equipment will not be at all. ”
