The countries of the organization of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) at the summit in Madrid adopted a new strategic concept in which Russia is called "the most significant and direct threat." This is stated in the message on the Alliance website.

“The Russian Federation is the most significant and direct threat to the security of our allies, peace and stability. She seeks to acquire an influence through coercion, sabotage, aggression and annexation. Her violent military position, rhetoric and willingness to apply force to achieve its political goals undermine the international order, ”the new concept says.

According to the document, the Alliance plans to “significantly strengthen the forces of deterrence and defense of all allies, increase its resistance to Russian aggression and support their partners in countering Russian intervention.” The concept also states that NATO can no longer consider the Russian Federation its partner.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference in Madrid that NATO would increase its presence in Eastern Europe. The German information agency DPA, citing sources,reports that the Alliance plans to increase the number of NATO quick response forces to 300 thousand people.

Also, the participants in the NATO summit officially invited the Alliance Finland and Sweden to join the alliance. The parties signed the appropriate memorandum.
