The film company Universal Pictures is finally leaving Russia and closing its local office. This was reported by the telegram channel “Film Distributor Bulletin” with reference to a source in the company.

“The parent company has decided to cease operations in the Russian Federation, as it has become impossible to conduct business due to the numerous difficulties faced by foreign companies,” Universal Pictures said in a letter that the company sent to several cinemas.

In March, after the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the largest Hollywood film companies - Warner Bros , Disney , Sony and Paramount - announced the suspension of work .

After this, Russian cinemas faced a shortage of films for distribution. The Cinema Owners Association said that half of cinemas could close by July. From the beginning of the year to mid-April, only 3.6 thousand cinemas remained in Russia out of 5.7 thousand operating.
