Boris Johnson is still leaving

The Prime Minister announced a resignation, but, apparently, he would remain in position until the fall. What will happen next (including with British help in Ukraine) is not clear

On July 7, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the departure from the post of head of the conservative party and, accordingly, the Prime Minister of Great Britain (because the British prime minister is always the leader of the ruling party).

He did not lose the election - on the contrary, even the most malicious opponentsadmitted that it was Johnson who was one of the main reasons for Tory’s crushing victory in the 2019 election. Moreover, less than a month ago, Boris Johnson experienced even a vote of mistrust from his own party-because of the very scandal after the party in the midst of Locksa. And just a day before resignation, he threatened through the main British media (with the mouth of an anonymous “close ally”) that the same party members would have to “stain their hands in the blood” before they get rid of him.

As a result, the prime minister was not leading to the resignation of the prime minister, but someone else's. Johnson's associate Chris Pincher held the post of deputy senior “Knut” of the Conservative Party in parliament - that is, the one who monitors party discipline so that the deputies do not miss the meetings and unanimously vote on important political issues. The Pincher was accused of sexual harassment (including one -party members), but Johnson, knowing this, pretended not to be aware of the charges, and in February 2022 he appointed him to a high position.

Immediately after Johnson nevertheless admitted that he was aware of the accusations against the Pincher, but ignored them, two key ministers-the chief treasurer of Rishi Sunak and Minister of Health Sajid Javid, quit from his office. Johnson’s opponents in the party at this point had already failed a vote of no confidence, and the last (unsuccessful) attempt to impeachment in the United Kingdom was made in 1848. Therefore, the conservatives saw their chance to get rid of the head of the party in joining Sunak and Javid.

By July 5, the score went to dozens of dismissed ministers - including those whom Boris tried to urgently appoint to the released positions. For example, the new Minister of Education Michel Donelan lasted less than two days for the post, and then announced her resignation on Twitter . In the statement, she noted that she understands all the consequences of such a step, but she does not see other ways to convince the Prime Minister.

By the time Boris Johnson nevertheless reached the steps of his residence with a resignation, more than fifty ministers with deputies have already quit-this is about a third of the whole British government. In the end, some joker, at the request of actor Hugh Grant, put a speaker with music from Benny Hill on a lawn at the parliament building, under which the next member of the government had to tell reporters why he was leaving.

Two dozen deputies appeared to support Johnson - although at the beginning of June 211 members of the Conservative Party voted against the Votum of Norment.

In his speech, Johnson did not even try to justify himself before the Sopartians. On the contrary, he accused them of "herd instinct", which brought him to resignation. And also in the fact that his successor will be elected according to the "Darwin" laws (without explaining what exactly he means).

Among his main merits as the prime minister, he mentioned the holding of Brexit, the first introduction of vaccines against coronavirus in Europe and the leading role of the country in supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia. It was already difficult to argue about various difficulties due to Brexit Medusit, but it is difficult to argue with the last two points of Johnson. The first vaccination against Covid in the UK (outside the framework of clinical research) was made back in early December 2020, and Johnson himself really became one of the first foreign leaders who came to Ukraine after the start of the Russian invasion.

After the announcement of the resignation, the British Prime Minister must report this to the monarch and present his successor. In practice, Korolev usually asks the pre -prime minister to finalize until the next general elections or party voting. At this time (already former), the prime minister plays the role of the head of the intermediate government - although David Cameron, in which the British voted for Brexit, for example, considered it too humiliating and left immediately as soon as the queen approved his successor, Teresa May, as a position.

Johnson already stated that he would remain until October 2022, when the Congress of the Conservative Party was held, although he would not undertake any new reforms. At the same time, it is still unclear who will claim leadership in the Conservative Party (even one of Johnson's closest associates Jacob RiS-Mogg declared a self-release).

Among the most likely successors are Ben Wallace Minister of Defense. Wallace is one of the few Johnson allies, whose anti -rating is not a two -digit figure. This is great news primarily for Ukraine. It was under Wallace and on his initiative (he also personally traveled to Kiev to meet with Vladimir Zelensky) Great Britain became the second leader in the supply of weapons and other assistance to Ukraine.
