The protocol on it was drawn up after the police discovered a post on the city defender in an anonymous telegram channel, in which the anonyms accused him of “anti-Russian activity” and attached screenshots of publications-supposedly from the city defender's page on VKontakte. Kononov claimed that he did not write such posts. He did not admit guilt.

The court of first instance abolished the consideration of the case and sent it back to the police, since violations were committed in the protocol. But later, the court nevertheless fined Kononov.

Kononov was one of the participants in the conflict of the leadership of the St. Petersburg branch of the All -Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments. Due to disagreements, the activities of the St. Petersburg branch were suspended, and the leadership elections were held. Some members of the company reported that the raider seizure of the VOOPIK occurred, since "dead souls" participated in the elected procedures, and not real members of the organization.
