The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation proposes to create a single football league for teams from territories controlled by Russia. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Sports Odes Baisultanov, RIA Novosti reports.
“The participants of the tournament will include the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Kherson, Zaporozhye, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Crimea and teams from Russian universities,” Baisultanov said.
The Ministry of Sports wants to create a separate structure for the championship. It will not be part of the Russian Football Union, which is a member of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
The championship is planned to be held in March-November 2023.
