American artist of Swedish descent, class Oldenburg, died at the age of 93. This was reported by the ART News publication with reference to representatives of two galleries who put up the artist’s work.

Oldenburg was born in 1929 in Stockholm in the family of a Swedish diplomat. The future artist spent his childhood in Chicago. After school, he studied at Yale University and at the Institute of Arts in Chicago.

Oldenburg held his first exhibition in New York in 1959. At the beginning of his career, he made the so -called “soft sculptures” (one of the most famous - “floor burger” ) and was engaged in chapping .

Later, the artist began to create sculptures of everyday objects in a giant size. Among his most famous works is the steel “clothespin” with a height of more than 13 meters, installed opposite the Philadelphia City Hall. Also, Oldenburg made sculptures in the form of a baseball bat , a badminton oxer , a horn of ice cream , a saw , brushes and a scoop . These works are in centers of different cities in the world.

The work of Oldenburg is attributed to pop art. From the second half of the 1970s, he created many of his sculptures with his wife Kuzi Van Bruggen.
