Belarusian Yana Pinchuk, arrested in Russia, is not receiving medical care in St. Petersburg pre-trial detention center-5. This was reported in a telegram channel in her support, which is run by the husband of the prisoner, Nikita Safronov.
Safronov clarified to Mediazona that he learned about his wife’s condition from a letter. He said that Pinchuk has been ill “for almost a month” and has not received any medical care. Despite the temperature of 39 degrees, she was not given an antipyretic.
“We wrote a complaint to the prosecutor’s office about this, but again to no avail. At the moment there is no fever, but a strong cough remains, and given Yana’s chronic asthma, this can lead to serious consequences <…> And now it has become known that Yana’s hand hurt for 4 days, and this morning she stopped feeling it and cannot move it. Instead of mandatory medical care, Yana fixed her hand with cardboard and a bandage,” the channel says.
Pinchuk was detained in St. Petersburg in November 2021 at the request of the Belarusian authorities. At home, she is accused of five counts: , , , , . She faces up to 19 years in prison.
In April, the Prosecutor General's Office approved the extradition of Pinchuk to Belarus. According to investigators, she managed the telegram channels: “Vitebsk 97%”, “Orsha 97%” and “Novopolotsk and Polotsk 97%”, which are labeled “extremist” in Belarus. Tomorrow, July 21, a hearing on her extradition will be held in St. Petersburg.
