In Ufa, the arrest of two accused in the case of a terrorist community was extended

On July 18, the Sovetsky District Court of Ufa extended the arrest of two members of the Marxist circle, Alexey Dmitriev and deputy of the State Assembly of Bashkortostan Dmitry Chuvilin, for two months. RBC reports this.

Dmitriev and Chuvilin are accused in the case of a terrorist community. Together with them, left-wing activists Yuri Efimov, Pavel Matisov and Rinat Burkeev are also involved in the case.

Matisov is charged with organizing the activities of a terrorist community (Part 1 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code), the rest are charged with participation in it (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code). A case was also opened against Efimov and Dmitriev for public calls for terrorist activities (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code).

The court will consider the investigation's petitions to extend the detention period of Efimova, Matisova and Burkeeva on July 20.

All five were detained and taken into custody at the end of March. As part of their case, security forces conducted searches of at least 12 residents of Ufa.

According to investigators, the Ufa Marxist circle, where the accused attended classes, was planning a violent seizure of power. The investigation considers the organizer of the terrorist community to be a member of the circle, Pavel Matisov, who in 2014 fought as a volunteer in one of the battalions of the Lugansk People's Republic.

The investigation considers three texts and two videos published in the circle group on VKontakte in 2019–2021 as evidence that the circle members were preparing for an armed seizure of power. In one of the videos, the unification program is read out; in the second, the activist declares that Russia is “occupied by capitalists” and calls for the overthrow of capitalism.
