Reuters: a turbine for Nord Stream is stuck in Germany due to the fact that Russia has not yet agreed on its transit

The Siemens turbine for the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which the Canadian authorities sent to Russia after repairs, got stuck on the way in Germany because the Russian side did not give permission for its transportation. Reuters was told about this by sources familiar with the situation.

According to one of the interlocutors of the agency, Moscow has not yet provided the documents necessary for the import of the turbine into Russia, including information about where exactly it should be delivered and through which customs post.

The turbine manufacturer, German company Siemens, said it would like to return the part, but cannot control the entire process. Reuters sources say the return of the turbine could take days or even weeks.

In turn, Gazprom said on July 20 that the company had not received official documents from Siemens allowing the turbine to be returned to Russia under the sanctions of Canada and the EU.

• Nord Stream is the main route for Russian gas supplies to Europe, which remained after the start of the war in Ukraine. Since June 16, Gazprom has reduced supplies through it to 40% of the nominal capacity. The company explained the reduction in supplies by the fact that due to sanctions they cannot return one of the turbines from repair from Canada. Germany has asked the Canadian authorities to return the turbine as an exception.
• Kommersant wrote that on July 17, Canada sent a repaired turbine to Germany. The information that the part is being transported from Canada to Russia was confirmed by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
• Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if the turbine is not returned on time, only 30 million cubic meters of gas per day can be pumped through Nord Stream instead of the current 60.
